MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): The most recent trade statistics released by Russia indicates that the country’s scrap exports increased during the three-month period of the current year.

According to trade data, Russia exported 1.115 million tonnes of scrap during the first quarter in 2015. The exports during the quarter were higher by 8.6% when compared with the exports during the corresponding three-month period in 2014. The Russian scrap exports had totaled 1.027 million tonnes during January to March last year.

The largest export destination of Russian scrap during the three-month period was Turkey. The Russian exports to Turkey totaled 487,000 tons, accounting for 43.68% of the total Russian exports. The second largest export destination was Belarus. Russia exported 214,000 tonnes of scrap to Belarus during Jan-Mar ‘15. The imports by Belarus accounted for 19.2% of the total Russian exports. In third place was Spain, accounting for nearly 13.36% of the total Russian exports. The exports to Spain touched 149,000 tonnes during the initial three months of 2015. The combined imports by these three countries accounted for more than three-fourth of the Russian scrap exports during January to March this year.

The Russian scrap exports are expected to total 4.46 million tonnes during the entire year 2015.
