US mills steel shipments down 2.5% in April

The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicates that the US steel mill shipments declined by 2.5% in April this year over the previous month.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments declined by 2.5% in April this year over the previous month. Also, the shipments in April 2015 were 13.9% down when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.

According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of April totaled 7,087,864 net tons, down 2.5% when compared to the total shipments of 7,270,793 net tons during March this year. Meantime, steel shipments in April witnessed corresponding decline over the year. Steel shipments dropped by 13.9% during Apr ‘15, when compared with the 8,235,096 net tons shipment during April 2014.

The US steel shipments for the initial four-month period of the year declined by 9.5% to 29.047 million net tons as against 32.086 million tons shipment during the corresponding four-month period from January to April last year.

The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of April when compared with the previous month were: cold rolled sheet (down by 2%), hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip (down by 2.0%), and hot rolled sheets (down by 7%).
