Turkish scrap imports plummet during Jan-Apr 2015

According to the latest data released by the TUIK, the total scrap imports by Turkey during the month of April this year declined sharply by nearly 11.36% from the previous month.

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): According to the latest data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), the total scrap imports by Turkey during the month of April this year declined sharply by nearly 11.36% from the previous month. The country’s scrap imports during Apr ‘15 totaled 1.17 million metric tons, when matched with 1.32 million metric tons during March this year.

The cumulative scrap imports by Turkey during the four-month period from January to April this year totaled 5.31 million mt, down 13.6% when compared the corresponding four-month period in 2014. The Turkish scrap imports during January to April last year had totaled 6.15 million mt.

The value of scrap imports during Jan-Apr ’15 totaled $1.6 billion, significantly down by 31.7% year-on-year. The Turkish scrap imports during the corresponding four-month period in 2014 had valued at $2.34 billion.

Turkey imported 2.82 million tons of scrap from EU region. The imports from the region dropped sharply by 15.6% when compared with a year before. The Turkish scrap imports from the EU region had totaled 3.34 million tons during January to April in 2014.
