Japan scrap exports rise 13% in April: MoF

The scrap exports by Japan during the month of April this year surged higher significantly, as per the latest data released by the country’s Ministry of Finance.

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): The scrap exports by Japan during the month of April this year surged higher significantly, as per the latest data released by the country’s Ministry of Finance. According to MoF data, the country’s scrap exports totaled 746,000 tons during the month. The exports soared 12.5% when compared with the exports during the previous month.

The Japanese scrap exports dropped slightly when compared with the same month a year before. The exports were marginally down by 1.2% from the exports of 755,000 tons during April 2014.

The largest importer of Japanese scrap during the month of April this year was South Korea. The scrap imports by South Korea totaled 293,000 tons, constituting nearly 40% of the total scrap exports by Japan during the month. The scrap exports to South Korea dropped by nearly 10.7% over the previous year.

In second place was Taiwan with 138,000 tons. The exports to Taiwan skyrocketed 104.6% when compared with the exports during Apr ’14. The third largest export destination for Japanese scrap was Vietnam with 91,000 tons. The exports to Vietnam dropped by 32.6% 625% during the month.

The cumulative scrap exports by Japan during the initial four-month period of the year totaled 2.64 million tons. This is 16.81% higher when compared with the exports of 2.26 million tons during the corresponding four-month period in 2014.
