US Raw Steel production drops significantly to 732,000 net tons: AISI

United States domestic raw steel production dropped significantly by nearly 7% year-on-year to 732,000 net tons in the week ended May 23.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production dropped significantly by nearly 7% year-on-year to 732,000 net tons in the week ended May 23, while the capability utilization rate was 73.3 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,860,000 net tons in the week ended May 23, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.3 percent.

Production for the week ended May 23, 2015 is up 1.6 percent from the previous week ended May 16, 2015 when production was 1,705,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.1 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 23, 2015 was 34,942,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.3 percent. That is down 7.2 percent from the 37,645,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.0 percent.
