SHANGHAI, May 26 (SMM) – China’s imports of ferronickel were 75,200 tonnes in April, up 93.61% month-on-month, according to China Customs.
The surge in April’s imports, also up 151.32% year-on-year, is due mainly to its bigger price advantage over domestic NPI, SMM says.
Inbound shipments of ferronickel from Indonesia, mainly Tsingshan’s project there, were 26,965 tonnes during the first four months of 2015, contributing to a total import of 197,000 tonnes during the period, up 88.12% year-on-year.
During the same period, imports from Myanmar also grew significantly to 13,492 tonnes.
China’s imports of ferronickel are expected to be high this year, SMM foresees.
