SHANGHAI, May 15 (SMM) – Rumor says that China will face bauxite shortages once Malaysia – now China’s major source of bauxite – runs out of reserves.
However, SMM deems such fear simply ungrounded.
China’s stockpiles of imported bauxite are over 200 million tonnes at present, and could support alumina refining through at least 2017. Moreover, China could also seek alternatives from West Africa, Australia, and other countries.
