LONDON (Scrap Register): Northern Europe hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices remained stable week-on-week at €398 per ton in the week ended May 01, as per the latest figures released by The Steel Index.

However, the Southern European hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices declined by €2 per ton week-on-week to €389 per ton last week. The South European HR coil prices ended a touch lower the week with trading activity fairly sluggish.

Despite the threat of imports waning, steel producers have been unable to entice buyers to place orders. Indeed, service centres appear to be content with their recent purchases and see no great incentive to book material in an uneventful market where supply, demand and pricing appear generally very stable.
