US Raw Steel production declines for the fifteenth consecutive week

United States raw steel last week production continued to decline for the fifteenth consecutive week.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States raw steel last week production continued to decline for the fifteenth consecutive week.

US domestic raw steel production declined by 10.5% year-on-year to 1,665,000 net tons in the week ended May 09 while the capability utilization rate was 70.4 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,860,000 net tons in the week ended May 9, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.3 percent.

Production for the week ended May 9, 2015 is down 2.7 percent from the previous week ended May 2, 2015 when production was 1,712,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.4 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through May 9, 2015 was 31,505,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 72.3 percent. That is down 7.1 percent from the 33,925,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.0 percent.
