Average operating rate at 45 major Chinese zinc smelters is expected to rise to 80% in May, Shanghai Metals Market expects.

SHANGHAI, May 12 (SMM) - Average operating rate at 45 major Chinese zinc smelters is expected to rise to 80% in May, Shanghai Metals Market expects.

Normal production at large smelters and the completion of unit maintenance at some smelters are believed to help increase utilization rate at major Chinese smelters, SMM says.

The utilization rate was 78.42% in April, up 2.98 percentage points from March, SMM survey shows, citing higher zinc prices and rising TCs for the month-on-month increase in rate.
