US mills steel shipments rebound in March

The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute indicates that the US steel mill shipments rose by 5% in March this year over the previous month.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments rose by 5% in March this year over the previous month. However, the shipments in March 2015 were 12.8% down when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.

According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of March totaled 7,270,793 net tons, up 5% when compared to the total shipments of 6,925,596 net tons during February this year. On the other hand, steel shipments in March witnessed corresponding decline over the year. Steel shipments dropped by 12.8% during Mar 2015, when compared with the 8,337,578 net tons shipment during March 2014.

The US steel shipments for the initial three-month period of the year declined by 7.9% to 21.959 million net tons as against 23.851 million tons shipment during the corresponding three-month period from January to March last year.

The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of March when compared with the previous month were: cold rolled sheet (up by 10.0%), hot dipped galvanized sheet and strip (up by 8.0%), and hot rolled sheets (up by 5%).
