NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices dropped during last week, while US aluminum scrap prices on Scrap Register Price Index remained flat.

According to the Steel Index, United States shredded scrap prices dropped by $3 a long ton to $261 a long ton (delivered mill) in the week ended May 01.

Whilst a lot of “buy-week” trade is yet to be completed, early indications are that there will be a lot of regional disparity this month.

Ohio mills were heard to have very little demand for scrap and, as a result, participants were heard to be quoting down $10 a long ton on most grades in the region.

There appears to be more optimism that stable-to-higher pricing would prevail in other regions, with the picture likely to become clearer next week.

As per Scrap Register Price Index, United States aluminum scrap commodities also showed a flat trend during last week. The scrap prices of 356 Auto Wheels, 5052 Alum Clip, 6061 Alum Extrusion, 6063 10-10 Extrusion, Al/Cu Rad with Iron, Al/Cu Radiator, Alum Breakage 50%, Alum Litho Sheets, Alum Old Sheet traded almost flat during last week.
