SHANGHAI, Apr. 28 (SMM) – Shanghai Metals Market (SMM), the leading metals information provider in China, adds China Nickel Industry Database into SMM Online Database Service, starting on Apr. 28.
The online SMM Nickel Industry Database will offer you a full picture of China’s nickel industry chain.
Philippine Nickel Ore Exports
The Philippines became the largest nickel ore supplier of Chinese NPI plants after Indonesia banned exports of unprocessed ore since January 12, 2014. The Philippines has contributed over 95% of China’s nickel ore imports since May 2014.
SMM database tracks laterite nickel ore exports from the Philippines by grade and finds that over 90% of the exports went to China.
SMM updates the nickel ore trade data on the 10th of every month.
Nickel Ore Inventories at Chinese Ports
SMM conducts surveys of nickel ore inventories at China’s major ports on a weekly basis. SMM survey covered China’s 4 major ports in March 2010, and the survey sample expanded to 5 ports in May 2012. SMM’s exclusive data on nickel ore stocks at Chinese ports allow our clients to make better judgment over China’s NPI production.
China Nickel Ore Import Numbers and Imports by Origin
SMM has provided China’s monthly nickel ore import data for 11 years thus far, and estimated the raw material supply for Chinese NPI producers. The import data by country of origin will help our clients understand who has the potential to make up for the lost ore supply from Indonesia.
The import volumes provided by SMM are usually worked out after excluding water content in laterite nickel ore (often 25-35%) and are thus lower than data from Customs.
China NPI Output
SMM has tracked China’s NPI production for 10 consecutive years since the industry emerged back in 2005. SMM survey sample covers over 80% of China’s total NPI capacity.
SMM provides NPI production data by grade (1.6-2.0%, 4-8%, 9-13%) and by region (Shandong, Inner Mongolia, Jiangsu, Fujian and others) every month.
NPI Capacity, Output and Inventories
SMM conducts survey of top 21 Chinese NPI plants on a monthly basis whose combined capacity accounts for about half of the national total.
SMM surveys offer key data on capacity, output, finished goods inventories, raw material inventories and grade.
NPI Capacity, Output and Inventories by Region
SMM conducts survey of NPI producers in China’s Fujian, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Inner Mongolia, Shandong and other regions every month, to calculate their respective NPI output, capacity, finished goods inventories, NPI grades, raw material stocks and grades.
SMM has been collecting ferronickel import data since 2008.
SMM ferronickel import data will help our clients better judge ferronickel market and understand raw material demand from stainless steel mills.
SMM provides data about NPI (1.6-2.0%, 4-6% and 9-13%) production costs of RKEF-based producers in Fujian, EF-based producers in Jiangsu, and producers using EF and BF in Shandong, to help our clients predict LME nickel price trends.
Refined Nickel Output
SMM has been conducting survey on China’s refined nickel output since June 2012, and our survey sample covers over 90% of China’s total output. SMM database offers monthly refined nickel output, capacity and operating rates.
Foreign Trades of Refined Nickel
Declining NPI production in 2015 is driving Chinese stainless steel mills to increase nickel imports. The foreign trade data for refined nickel serves as an indicator to reflect nickel supply in China’s local market to some extent.
