SHANGHAI, Apr. 23 (SMM) – The arrivals of NPI shipments from Indonesia are not expected to place a big impact on China’s NPI market, according to Shanghai Metals Market’s interview at SMM Nickel Summit.
“Arrivals of Indonesia’s NPI are now in small amounts, and those arrivals could not offset the sharp decline in China’s NPI output,” said Xu Baojian, General Manager of Zibo Jianghang Economic & Trade Co. said at the Summit held on Apr. 17-18.
Production at Chinese NPI producers is now depressed by sluggish nickel prices and stricter environmental protection inspections, with utilization rate less than 30%, he noted.
Stainless steel output is expected to grow 5-8% this year, Mr. Xu added, but other conference participants thought it was too pessimistic.
