Inbound shipments of iron ore to China are expected to fall slightly in April, Shanghai Metals Market’s ferrous Steelease foresees.

SHANGHAI, Apr. 22 (SMM) – Inbound shipments of iron ore to China are expected to fall slightly in April, Shanghai Metals Market’s ferrous Steelease foresees.

Supply declines and buying caution by Chinese steel mills are believed to be major reasons behind the decline, Steelease says.

Atlas suspended production in April, and a number of small and medium overseas mines also halted or cut production, which will reduce April’s iron ore supply. Besides, output at the top 4 mining companies is not expected to grow until the second half of 2015.

China imported 80.51 million tonnes of iron ore in March, up 18.5% month-on-month and 8.85% year-on-year, according to customs data.
