Germany's iron ore imports rise in 2014

According to the latest import statistics published by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), the iron ore imports by Germany surged higher during the entire year 2014.

BERLIN (Scrap Monster): According to the latest import statistics published by the European Steel Association (EUROFER), the iron ore imports by Germany surged higher during the entire year 2014. This is in comparison with the imports during the previous year.
 
The iron ore imports by the country during 2014 totaled 43 million tonnes, 6.7% higher when compared with the imports during the previous year. The iron ore imports had totaled 40.3 million tonnes in 2013. Meantime, the average import prices dropped sharply during the year. The average iron ore import price by Germany during 2014 was $111.8 per ton. This is 14.7% down when compared with the average import price of $131.1 per ton during the previous year.
 
The largest iron ore exporter to Germany during 2014 was the Netherlands. Germany’s iron ore imports from the country totaled 22.16 million tonnes, accounting for more than 50% of the total imports by Germany during the period. The second largest exporter to Germany during the year was Brazil with 7.88 million tonnes, followed by Sweden with 6.49 million tonnes.
 
The monthly iron ore imports by the country averaged at 3.58 million tonnes during the year.
