What Direction Will Nickel Go after Today Rallies? SMM Interviews

Published: Apr 2, 2015 17:01
On Apr. 2, nickel futures prices surged after profit-taking by shorts. Any further room will be allowed for nickel prices to go up, or nickel prices will track lower again?

SHANGHAI, Apr. 2 (SMM) – On Apr. 2, nickel futures prices surged after profit-taking by shorts. SHFE 1507 nickel rallied up by 3.54% to close at 96,160 yuan per tonne, and LME, as of 15:07 Beijing time, traded at $12,920 per tonne, up 1.69%.

Any further room will be allowed for nickel prices to go up, or nickel prices will track lower again?

“SHFE nickel will follow the trend in LME nickel market after just being launched, and will get boosted from a rally in SHFE copper in the short term,” an analyst from COFCO Futures told SMM in an interview.

The long-term outlook is also not bad, the analyst added.

“I expects nickel prices to keep falling in the coming months, with next key support level around $11,400 per tonne”, Commerzbank’s analyst said.

“Investors should be very careful of recent price movements, and supply in China’s domestic spot market now remains sufficient, and the round of gains is just price corrections after earlier losses,” an analyst from Guosen Futures said.

Fuling Launches Pilot for Efficient Aluminum Scrap Inspection, Reducing Costs and Time
On September 8, a shipment of 124.6 mt of imported aluminum scrap arrived at the customs supervision site at Huangqi Port in Fuling, Chongqing, marking the official launch of the pilot program for optimized inspection and supervision of imported secondary aluminum in Fuling. Fuling thus became the second district or county in Chongqing to implement the pilot, after Yongchuan. As the pilot enterprise, Jiantao Aluminum, a core secondary aluminum industry leader in south-west China, has an annual capacity of 600,000 mt. With the pilot in place, the enterprise no longer needs to unpack and store containers at coastal ports; raw materials can be shipped directly to Fuling for inspection, effectively reducing logistics and warehousing costs and shortening customs clearance time. According to the enterprise's comprehensive calculations, each mt of raw material saves 200 yuan.
