Increase in TCs for Copper Conc. May be Blocked, SMM’s Zhou Says

The uptrend in TCs for copper concentrate powered by expectation for ample supply may be arrested, SMM analyst Zhou Xiaoou said at the 2015 Shanghai Copper & Aluminum Summit.

SHANGHAI, Mar. 30 (SMM) – The uptrend in TCs for copper concentrate powered by expectation for ample supply may be arrested, Zhou Xiaoou, analyst with Shanghai Metals Market, said at the 2015 Shanghai Copper & Aluminum Summit last week.

Although spot TCs for copper concentrate were offered around $100 per tonne last week, TCs for some clean concentrates were heard at a low of $80-85 per tonne.

“Declining output and raw ore grades at Chile’s copper mines have triggered concerns that actual concentrate production this year may fall short of forecast,” Zhou noted. This was reflected by a diverged trend of TCs for clean copper concentrate and lower-grade ones.
