US Raw Steel production plummets to 1,639,000 net tons

United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by 12.3% to 1,639,000 net tons in the week ending March 21.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States domestic raw steel production plummeted by 12.3% to 1,639,000 net tons in the week ending March 21, while the capability utilization rate was 69.3 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, raw steel production was 1,868,000 net tons in the week ended March 21, 2014 while the capability utilization then was 77.7 percent.

Production for the week ended March 21, 2015 is up 1.0 percent from the previous week ended March 14, 2015 when production was 1,623,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 68.7 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through March 21, 2015 was 19,917,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 73.7 percent. That is down 5.1 percent from the 20,980,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 77.1 percent.
