North American crude steel output descends in Feb ‘15

According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries edged lower by 6.8% during the month of February year-on-year.

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association, the crude steel production by North American countries edged lower by 6.8% during the month of February year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Canada during February this year was 1.040 Mt, higher than the February 2014 production of 985,000 tonnes by 5.6%. The US produced 6.261 Million tonnes of crude steel, 7.9% down when compared to 6.802 Million tonnes production achieved during February 2014. The total crude steel production by Mexico plunged 8.1% from 1.594 Mt in Feb ‘14 to 1.465 Mt in February this year.

The Cuban crude steel production declined by 8.8% to 20,000 tonnes. The crude steel output by El Salvador was estimated at 10,000 tonnes in February this year, up nearly 19% when compared with 8,000 tonnes a year before. Guatemala produced 25,000 tonnes in February, down 8.4% from a year ago. The crude steel output by Trinidad & Tobago plunged by 44.3% in February this year to 32,000 tonnes from 57,000 tonnes during same month the previous year.

The following table provides cumulative crude steel output for the first two months in 2015 in comparison with those during same period in 2014.
