Worldwide DRI output dropped marginally in Feb '15

The World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in February this year has declined slightly by nearly 4% when compared with the previous month.

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in February this year has declined slightly by nearly 4% when compared with the previous month.

The world DRI production during the month of February 2015 totaled 5.110 million metric tons, which is lower by 3.93% when compared with the 5.319 million metric tons production achieved during January this year.

According to World Steel data, India ranked first in DRI production during the month. Iran and Mexico were the second and third largest DRI producing nations. The DRI production by India dropped during Feb ‘15. On the other hand, Iran expanded its output during the month.

The estimated DRI output by India during February was 1.465 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output during the month declined sharply by 9.73% over the previous month. Iran’s DRI production in February totaled 1.449 million metric tons, significantly higher by 12.85% when compared with the previous month output of 1.284 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in February amounted to 475,000 metric tons, which is almost 10% lower when compared with the output during the previous month.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in February 2015 is as follows: Canada (119), Trinidad & Tobago (132), Argentina (93), Peru (10), Venezuela (150), Egypt (200), Libya (35), South Africa (125), Qatar (209), Saudi Arabia (413) and United Arab Emirates (236).

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounts for more than 87% of the global DRI production.
