India's scrap imports rose marginally during 2014

The scrap imports by India during the entire year 2014 increased marginally when compared with the previous year.

NEW DELHI (Scrap Monster): The scrap imports by India during the entire year 2014 increased marginally when compared with the previous year.
 
According to trade data, India imported 5.69 million tons of scrap during 2014. This is marginally higher by 0.5% when compared with the imports of 5.66 million tons during the previous year.
 
In 2014, the UAE was the main exporter of scrap to India. The scrap imports from the UAE totaled 1.12 million tons, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the total imports by India during the month. The scrap imports from the UAE during the entire year 2014 were up 44.7% when compared with the previous year.
 
The second largest source of scrap imports by India was South Africa. The scrap imports from South Africa during the year totaled 833,000 tons, down by over 6.60% when compared with the previous year. The scrap imports from South Africa constituted nearly 15% of the total yearly Indian imports.
 
The UK was the third largest ferrous scrap exporter to India during the year. The scrap imports from the region dropped marginally by 1.1% during the year. The UK exported 775,000 tons of scrap into India during 2014.
 
The annual scrap imports by the country during 2013 had declined sharply by nearly 30.6% in 2013 to 5.67 million tons.
