SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments declined by 2.7% in January this year over the previous month. Also, the shipments in January 2015 were 1.7% down when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.
According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of January totaled 7,762,742 net tons, down 2.7% when compared to the total shipments of 7,978,310 net tons during December last year. Also, the steel shipments in January have witnessed corresponding decline over the year. Steel shipments dropped by 1.7% during Jan ‘15, when compared with the 7,895,293 net tons shipment during January 2014.
The US steel shipments for the entire year 2014 had climbed higher by 3.0% to 98.249 million net tons as against 95.423 million tons shipment during the full year 2013.
The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of January when compared with the previous month were: cold rolled sheet (up by 2.0%), hot dipped galvanized sheets (down 6.0%) and hot rolled sheets (down 10%).
