US Raw Steel production falls to 1,657,000 net tons

United States Raw Steel production plunged by 9.2% to 1,657,000 net tons in the week ended February 28 while the capability utilization rate was 70.1 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States Raw Steel production plunged by 9.2% to 1,657,000 net tons in the week ended February 28 while the capability utilization rate was 70.1 percent, as per the latest figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,824,000 net tons in the week ended February 28, 2014, while the capability utilization then was 75.8 percent.

Production for the week ended February 28, 2015 is down 3.4 percent from the previous week ended February 28, 2015 when production was 1,716,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 72.6 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through February 28, 2015 was 15,010,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 75.3 percent. That is down 2.4 percent from the 15,375,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 75.8 percent.
