CIS crude steel production falls in January

The crude steel production by Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) dropped by 3.1% during the month of Jan ‘15 year-on-year.

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to the recent data published by the World Steel Association (World Steel), the crude steel production by Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) dropped by 3.1% during the month of Jan ‘15 year-on-year.

The total crude steel production by Byelorussia surged higher by 29.8% during January this year to 219,000 tonnes from 169,000 tonnes in January 2014. Kazakhstan produced 230,000 tonnes of crude steel, significantly lower by 19.7% when compared to 287,000 tonnes production achieved during January last year. Moldova recorded 22,000 tonnes steel output during the month. The total crude steel production by Russia was up by 6.0% from 5.781 Million tonnes in January 2014 to 6.130 Million tonnes in Jan ‘15.

There was marked decline in Ukraine’s crude steel output in January. Ukraine’s total crude steel output declined sharply by 22.2% to 1.874 Million tonnes in Jan ‘15 when compared with the output of 2.506 Million tonnes during Jan ‘14. Also, Uzbekistan’s crude steel output declined sharply by 13.0% during the month from 59,000 tonnes to 51,000 tonnes.

The region’s crude steel production totaled 8.526 Million tonnes during January this year in comparison with 8.801 Million tonnes during the same month a year before.
