BEIJING (Scrap Monster): The members of the International Tin Industry Association (ITRI) have expressed support to formulation of a new industry code of conduct which is expected to raise the standards of the global tin industry. After conducting a thorough review of its activities, the association announced its commitment to develop a responsible and sustainable industry in the coming years.

The industry body had recently announced appointment of Gao Wenxiang, General Manager of Yunnan Tin Corporation (YTC) as its new Chairman. The association plans to hold China International Tin Forum in Shanghai between 18th and 21st May, 2015. According to ITRI, the Chinese support for ITRI increased significantly during the past year and that the body would continue co-ordination of its regional activities through the Beijing office.

ITRI’s membership expanded during the year with the addition of Rahman Hydraulic Tin (Malaysia), Bluestone Mines Tasmania (Australia), and Mineração Taboca (Brazil). However, P.T Timah still continues to remain as a non-member of the association. David Bishop, CEO, ITRI stated that the stronger membership will equip the trade body to better face industry challenges.

The ITRI members have also agreed to work together towards development of an industry code of conduct. The proposed code of conduct is expected to assist tin users and consumers to differentiate between suppliers in order to make right purchasing decisions. It will also help to create new standards in the industry and attract more tin producers to the trade body. The work on the planned code of conduct is set to start in the coming months, noted ITRI.
