Utilization rate at major Chinese galvanizers is expected to fall below 50% in February, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

SHANGHAI, Feb. 17 (SMM) – Utilization rate at major Chinese galvanizers is expected to fall below 50% in February, Shanghai Metals Market foresees.

The rate dropped to 63.3% in January, according to SMM survey, finding stricter environmental protection inspections, cash tightness, and shrinking margins depressed their production.

The further decline in rate for February is mainly the result of the holiday factor, SMM understands, as many producers, having suspended production ahead of the holiday, also decided to delay production restart after the holiday.
