SHANGHAI, Feb. 9 (SMM) – Qinghai Province imported 361,000 mt of alumina in 2014, up 48% from a year ago, local media reported yesterday.
The average import price was 2,045 yuan ($332) per tonne, up a mere 0.3%.
Imported alumina was cheaper than domestic alumina, offering incentive to import. Besides, Indonesia’s export ban on unprocessed ores interrupted raw material supply for China, also forcing Chinese companies to step up alumina imports, local customs authority said.
