TAIPEI (Scrap Register): The prices for containerized Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 fell $10 a ton to $243 a ton in the week ended January 30 CFR Taiwan port as mills attempted to close the gap between EAF and BOF raw material costs.
The fall in Taiwanese domestic long and domestic scrap prices can also be attributed to the continuing poor demand for finished products in the country.
Currently Japanese scrap is still preferred by many mills putting ISRI grade scrap under huge pressure to be competitive in the Taiwanese market.
