Japan's Ferrous scrap exports declined 10% in 2014

The ferrous scrap exports by Japan during the month of December last year inched marginally higher, as per the latest data released by the country's Ministry of Finance.

TOKYO (Scrap Monster): The ferrous scrap exports by Japan during the month of December last year inched marginally higher, as per the latest data released by the country's Ministry of Finance.

According to MoF data, the country's scrap exports totaled 609,000 tons during the month. The exports were slightly up by 4.9% when compared with the exports of 580,609 tons during the previous month. Also, the scrap exports during Dec ‘14 were 12.3% higher when compared with the same month a year ago. The Japanese scrap exports during December 2013 had totaled 542,297 tons.

The cumulative scrap exports by Japan during the entire year 2014 totaled 7.351 million tons. This is 9.8% down when compared with the exports during the previous year. The Japanese scrap exports during the entire year 2013 had totaled 8.060 million tons.

South Korea was the largest importer of Japanese scrap during 2014. The Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 3.81 million tons during the entire year, accounting for nearly 52% of the total scrap exports by Japan during 2014. In second place was China (2.1 million tons), followed by Vietnam (753,000 tons).
