US steel shipments plunged by 10.2% in Nov '14: AISI

The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) indicates that the US steel mill shipments declined sharply by 10.2% in November 2014 over the previous month.

SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The most recent report released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI)- the association of North American steel producers indicates that the US steel mill shipments declined sharply by 10.2% in November 2014 over the previous month. However, the shipments in November this year were slightly up by 0.4% when compared with the figures recorded during same month the previous year.

According to AISI, the US steel mills shipment for the month of November totaled 7,638,086 net tons, down 10.2% when compared to the total shipments of 8,508,477 net tons during October last year. Also, the steel shipments in November have witnessed marginal increase over the year. Steel shipments during the month were up 0.4% in Nov ’14, when compared with the 7,604,428 net tons shipment during November 2013.

The US steel shipments year-to-date was up 2.8% at 90.270 million net tons as against 87.791 million tons shipment during the corresponding eleven-month period in 2013.

The products which witnessed sizable changes in shipments during the month of November when compared with the previous month were: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip (down 12.0%), cold rolled sheet (down 9.0%), hot rolled sheet (down by 8.0%).
