ANKARA (Scrap Register): Turkish HMS 1/2 80:20 scrap import prices (CFR Iskenderun Port, Turkey) remained slightly up week-on-week to $319 a ton in the early week of January, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index.
According to TSI, Turkish HMS #1&2 80:20 daily benchmark moved down by $1 a ton compared to the end of the previous calendar week, falling to $319 a ton, CFR Iskenderun port.
The final week of the year saw a market becalmed as mills fight to maintain finished steel margins in the face of continued competitive import prices from Ukraine, CIS and Russia.
A lowering US$-lira rate has served to further sap imported scrap appetites. The FE ratio (iron units in ore vs scrap) looks unsustainably high, hovering at a 12-month high.
