Ban on iron ore mining leads to massive job loss

NEW DELHI (Scrap Monster): According to a joint study, which was conducted by the Yes Bank and ASSOCHAM, after the decline of the commodity in the global market, and the ban on iron ore export in the states of Karnataka and Goa,  a deep  decline in the in the mineral production of the country was duly noted. This also had a major influence on the export of iron ore, which was over 117 million tonnes in the year 2009-2010, and now reached about 114 million tonnes in the year 2013-2014.

The study, which was conducted by both the Yes bank and the ASSOCHAM, was titled as, 'Mining; Building a sustainable development framework for inclusive growth', stated that, the ban on mining in the states, could lead to massive job loss in the country.  The Secretary General of ASSOCHAM, D S Rawat, stated that, the recent issues, which had taken place due to the illegal mining, and also the regulatory challenges, policy gridlocks, inadequate supporting infrastructure, and also other significant hurdles in the growth of the mining sector of India.

He also added that, the mining sector of the country is saddled with logistic inefficiencies, economic, bureaucratic, environmental, and also a host of capacity issues which owes to the lack of  co-ordination between various agencies, apart from the lack of central planning, which has resulted in procurement delays. He claimed that this calls for the sudden increase in transportation via, rail, road, and also easy transport of the minerals to the point of consumption.
