NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States shredded scrap prices remained flat week-on-week at $340 a long ton (delivered mill) in the week ended December 26, as per the latest figures released by the The Steel Index.
US shredded scrap prices remained flat last week, despite market activity as some stepped in early to pre-empt an anticipated tighter supply environment in January, as the tonnages failed to tell on the volume-weighted index.
The market is weighing up the potential for better finished demand in January, along with the effects of a downward adjusted BOF charge-mix on January availability and it's generally lower flows. The volumes demanded by export markets is also being eyed.
