China’s copper concentrate output grew 13,700 tonnes to 182,100 tonnes, the NBS stated, but SMM reckoned the data may be inflated.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 31 (SMM) – China’s copper concentrate output grew 13,700 tonnes to 182,100 tonnes in November, with Inner Mongolia and Yunnan mines contributing the most, the National Bureau of Statistics stated. However, SMM reckoned the data may be inflated.

SMM’s lateset survey found stable production at large mines in Inner Mongolia and just about 200 tonne of increase in smaller mines’ output. Several local mines commented that there is little chance of a sharp rise in output as no large projects have started or resumed production in November.

In Yunnan, a few small mines restarted production following environmental protection upgrades, leading to a 210-tonne rise in output. Taken together, SMM projects growth in copper concentrate production of around 450 tonnes for mining companies in the survey sample.
