SHANGHAI, Dec. 29 (SMM) – Inbound shipments of zinc concentrate to China were 189,100 mt tonnes in November, up 37.88% year-on-year, according to China Customs.
Shanghai Metals Market attributes the strong growth of imports mainly to rising TCs for imported ore and the favorable SMM/LME zinc price ratio.
Besides, high operating rates at major Chinese zinc smelters, which surged to the 2014’s high of 83.88% in November according to SMM survey, also boosted demand for ore.
Customs data also show year-to-date imports through November were 1.88 million tonnes, up 6.13% year-on-year.
