Silicon metal producers in Xinjiang have met difficulties in transporting silicon metal out due to heavy snows, Shanghai Metals Market says.

SHANGHAI, Dec. 19 (SMM) – Silicon metal producers in Xinjiang have met difficulties in transporting silicon metal out due to heavy snows, Shanghai Metals Market says.

“Strong snows have prolonged transportation of silicon metal by 1-2 days,” silicon metal producers in Xinjiang told SMM.

However, supply of silica, raw material, is not affected by adverse weather, as local producers have built inventories before the winter sets in, SMM learns.

Besides, production at local silicon metal producers also remains unaffected, with December’s average operating rate at above 60%, SMM foresees.
