US Raw Steel production rises 5% y/y to 1,877,000 net tons

United States raw steel production rose by 5% year-on-year to 1,877,000 net tons in the week ended December 06 while the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent.

NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States raw steel production rose by 5% year-on-year to 1,877,000 net tons in the week ended December 06 while the capability utilization rate was 78.0 percent, as per the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

According to AISI, production was 1,788,000 net tons in the week ended December 06, 2013, while the capability utilization then was 74.6 percent.

Production for the week ended December 06, 2014 is up 2.3 percent from the previous week ended November 29, 2014 when production was 1,835,000 net tons and the rate of capability utilization was 76.3 percent.

Adjusted year-to-date production through December 6, 2014 was 90,000,000 net tons, at a capability utilization rate of 77.1 percent. That is up 0.6 percent from the 89,446,000 net tons during the same period last year, when the capability utilization rate was 76.8 percent.

Broken down by districts, here's production for the week ending December 6, 2014 in thousands of net tons: North East: 240; Great Lakes: 673; Midwest: 234; Southern: 640 and Western: 90 for a total of 1,877.
