SHANGHAI, Dec. 5 (SMM) – Shandong province plans to cut local aluminum capacity to 9 million tonnes by 2017 and no longer approves new aluminum capacity thereafter, local media reported on December 3.

 

The local government is aiming to foster two aluminum giants with sales revenues in excess of 100 bllion yuan ($ 16 billion) and five aluminum companies with sales revenues exceeding 10 bllion yuan.

 

Shandong Xinfa Aluminum Co., Shandong Weqiao Aluminum Co. and Shandong Nanshan Aluminum Co. will gain support from the local government to develop themselves into companies with industry chain that covers alumina, aluminum and aluminum semis, according to the Upgrade Program for Nonferrous Metals Industry released recently.
