Turkish scrap imports fell marginally during Jan-Oct '14

The most recent data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) suggests that the scrap imports by the country were marginally down by 1.6% during the initial ten-month period of the year.

ANKARA (Scrap Monster): The most recent data published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) suggests that the scrap imports by the country were marginally down by 1.6% during the initial ten-month period of the year. This is upon comparison with the imports during the period from January to October last year.

Turkey's scrap imports during January to October this year totaled 16.25 million tonnes. The scrap imports during the month of October '14 alone totaled 1.58 million tonnes.

During January to October ‘14, Europe was the largest scrap exporter to Turkey. The scrap imports by the country from Europe totaled 8.8 million tonnes, accounting for more than half of the total imports by Turkey during the period. The second largest source of Turkish scrap imports was the US. The scrap imports by the country from the US totaled 3.25 million tonnes during the period. In third place was the CIS with exports to Turkey totaling 3.2 million tons.

Turkey's scrap import revenues witnessed a fall of 2.4% during the ten-month period. The import revenues totaled $6.15 billion during the period this year, when compared to $6.30 billion during the corresponding ten-month period last year.
