NEW YORK (Scrap Register): United States hot rolled cold (HRC) steel prices dropped by $8 a short ton week-on-week to $648 a short ton in the week ended October 17, as per The Steel Index.
According to TSI, US Midwest (FOB Mill) HR coil spot prices edged downwards last week after trading continued around the $650 a short ton mark.
As previously reported, there were deals concluded as low as $640 a short ton but market participants believe these may be the preserve of those booking large tonnages.
Participants also reported a disparity between the Midwest and Southern markets where HR coil was reported to be available at a $510 a short ton discount compared to spot prices in the Midwest.
