SHANGHAI, Oct. 15 (SMM) – The Chinese government will reportedly step up high-speed rail investment during the 13th Five Year Plan period (2016-2020). The acceleration in railway construction is expected to boost wire and cable consumption.
It was reported construction of new high-speed rail lines connecting provincial capitals will be included in the 13th Five Year Plan, and some local governments may start building new rail lines in 2015 – the last year of the 12th Five Year Plan.
SMM undertook a survey of companies producing wire and cable applied in railway sector, and found that most of them were optimistic. Chinese wire and cable makers have suffered from a slowdown in power grid and housing investment this year. The news on a ramp-up in railway construction gave fresh hope to many.
