Burundi launches, country’s first ever nickel project

BUJUMBURA (Scrap Monster): The chairperson of the inauguration ceremony of the mine located in Rutana Province, in the southern Burundi  was the second vice president of Burundi, Dr. Gervais Rufyikiri, the mine would be opened as a joint venture, named Burundi Musongati Minning, which will be a combined mining enterprise with the Burundi government as well as the Burundi Mining Metallurgy International.

According to the statement released by Dr. Gervais Rufyikiri, the inauguration of the nickel mine was a remarkable and memorable event in the country’s history.  The launching of the mining firm is a strong sign of the peace and stability acquired by the country, after so many years. Nickel deposit can also be found in the region of Nyabikere and also in Waga, but than these mentioned deposits, the nickel deposits at Musongati is much more important. According to the study issued by the African Development Bank, in the year, 2009, Burundi, is one of the 10 countries in the whole world which has the highest unrecovered amount of nickel.
 
The increased supply of  electricity and mining goes hand in had stated, DR. Gervais. He asked the representatives of the state owned metallurgical company, to develop within the agreement signed by the government and to respect the terms mentioned in it. He stated that the government is highly committed in  order to provide support to the company in all situations.
