China produced 15,342 tonnes of refined tin in August, up 21.4% year-on-year, according to China Customs.

SHANGHAI, Sept. 28 (SMM) – China produced 15,342 tonnes of refined tin in August, up 21.4% year-on-year, according to China Customs.

The growth in output is mainly to strong imports of ore from Myanmar, Shanghai Metals Market notes.

Large amounts of Myanmar’s tin ores have been imported to China since the beginning of 2013, and 2014’s monthly imports reach more than 10,000 tonnes.

Rising costs and stringent environmental protection efforts have curbed the output growth of domestic tin ore, SMM learns.

Growing output, however, has not accelerated the supply surplus in China’s domestic tin market, due largely to the drop in imports and increased exports, according to SMM.
