TAIPEI (Scrap Register): The scrap prices for containerized Taiwanese imports of HMS # 1&2 80:20 gained by $1 a ton last week to finish at $350 a ton in the week ended August 22nd this year.

The import market remains subdued, with most mills preferring to source material via the domestic market which is in plentiful supply.

The finished steel market is currently being disrupted by the import of cheap Chinese wire rods, with many mills adopting a wait-and-see approach to see the true effect of these on demand and pricing before securing further more expensive imported scrap.
