SHANGHAI, Aug. 12 (SMM) – Severe drought in Henan has led to crop failures in parts of the region. Shanghai Metals Market has surveyed lead smelters in the province, a major lead producing region in China, to ascertain whether the drought has disrupted production.

SMM survey, covering 10 lead smelters in Xinxiang, Jiaozuo, and Kaifeng of Henan Province, finds that they consume only 8.5 m3 of water per tonne of crude lead smelted and less than 10 m3 for every 50 tonnes of secondary lead smelted.

Company officials contacted in the survey all indicated that the drought has had little impact on lead smelting operations.

Henan produced 119,532 tonnes of lead during June, 29.53% of the national total.
