Average operating rate at major domestic zinc oxide enterprises grew to 62.1% in June thanks to strong orders from pharmaceutical, electronics and ceramic sectors, SMM survey found.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 17 (SMM) – Average operating rate at major domestic zinc oxide enterprises grew to 62.1% in June thanks to strong orders from pharmaceutical, electronics and ceramic sectors, Shanghai Metals Market survey found.

Orders from the automobile sector, however, remained sluggish, according to SMM survey of major zinc oxide producers, mainly in Jiangsu, Shandong, Hebei, Shanghai and Liaoning.

The rate is expected to hold around 60% in July, SMM foresees.

The SMM survey also showed that soaring zinc prices turned zinc oxide producers wary of raw material purchases, keeping inventories around 5.5 days of production.
