Russia’s stainless steel exports declined 59% during Jan-May 2014

Russia’s exports of stainless steel products dropped sharply during the initial five-month period in 2014.

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): According to statistics released by the Special Steel and Alloys Consumers and Suppliers Association (Spetsstal) of Russia, the country’s exports of stainless steel products dropped sharply during the initial five-month period in 2014.

The exports totaled 4,380 tons during January to May this year, 59% lower when compared with exports during the corresponding five-month period last year. Russia had exported 10,683 tons of stainless steel products during Jan-May 2013.
 
The Russian exports of stainless steel billets totaled 461 tons during the five-month period, down 93% year-on-year. The country had exported 6,586 tons of billets during January to May last year.
 
The country’s exports of flat rolled products too declined sharply over the previous year. The flat rolled product exports totaled 624 tons, 33% lower when compared with the exports of 931 tons during the five-month period in 2013.
 
On the other hand, exports of long rolled stainless steel products increased during the initial five months in 2014. The exports totaled 2,400 tons, 29% higher when compared with the exports during the corresponding period last year.
