Average operating rate at major Chinese die-cast zinc alloy producers fell to 56.3% in June, down 4.4% from May, Shanghai Metals Market survey finds.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 15 (SMM) – Average operating rate at major Chinese die-cast zinc alloy producers fell to 56.3% in June, down 4.4% from May, Shanghai Metals Market survey finds.

Slack demand from housing market-related sectors and apparel accessory sector was the main reason behind the lower operating rate, SMM understands. Orders from the auto sector remained stable, though.

The average operating rate at the producers, mainly in Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Fujian, Guangdong, Shandong and Henan, is expected to drop further in July, SMM foresees, as the low-demand month and power shortage in summer will undermine production.

60% of the die-cast zinc alloy producers covered in SMM’s survey sample painted a gloomy picture of zinc market. As a result, 58% of those surveyed kept less than a week of feedstocks, while the remaining 42% maintained inventories for 1-2 weeks of production, SMM survey revealed.
