Average Operating Rate at Chinese Zinc Smelters Rises to 73.68% in June 2014

Average operating rate at major Chinese domestic zinc smelters rose to 73.68% in June, up 2.2 % from May, Shanghai Metals Market survey finds.

SHANGHAI, Jul. 15 (SMM) – Average operating rate at major Chinese domestic zinc smelters rose to 73.68% in June, up 2.2 % from May, Shanghai Metals Market survey finds.

The growth of rate, hitting a record high for the year, was due mainly to production resumption and rising zinc prices, according to SMM survey of 41 domestic zinc smelters, with capacity totaling 5.69 million tonnes, 120,000 tonnes of which is idle.

Average operating rate is expected at around 74% in July, SMM foresees, as most smelters will maintain normal production over the month.
